1. EIB signs EUR 150 million loan with IREDA to finance clean energy projects in India
The European investment bank (EIB) has signed a EUR 150 million long-term loan with the Indian renewable energy development agency (IREDA) to finance clean energy projects in India.
“Renewable energy has become economically and commercially viable. We have funds from world over for clean energy projects. The significant new EIB investment support signed today will strengthen expansion of clean energy generation across India,” said Power Minister RK Singh.
2.China scrapped two-term limit for Presidential rule.
Out of the total 2964 deputies of the National People’s Congress who voted, only two put in a dissenting vote and three abstained in allowing president Xi Jinping to rule indefinitely.
China’s parliament on Sunday amended the constitution to remove the limit on presidential terms. The amendment will allow President Xi Jinping, 64, who is seen as the most powerful Chinese leader in the post-Mao Zedong era, to keep power indefinitely.
The support to strike down the two term-limit was nearly unanimous.
3. India won “Best Exhibitor Award” at ITB – Berlin.
India has won the “Best Exhibitor Award” at ITB – Berlin on its last day. ‘ITB -Berlin World Tourist Meet’ was convened at Berlin, Germany from 7th March to 10th March, 2018.
India was represented by the Minister of State (Independent charge) for Tourism K. J.
Alphons along with couple of Tourism Ministry officials.
More than 100 countries participated in the ITB – Berlin meet with their respective Tourism Ministers.
4. NCRB releases “Citizen Services” Mobile APP.
National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) celebrated its 33rd Inception Day, on March 11, 2018 in their newly constructed Complex at Mahipalpur, New Delhi and released “Citizen Services” Mobile APP.
This single App is a bouquet of various essential police related services to the citizen.
The App can be used by citizen for various services such as Complaint Registration & Status Check, View FIR Detail, SOS – Stay Safe, Locate Police Stations, Vahan-Samanvay, Emergency Contact List, Police Stations Telephone Directory etc.
5. Australia beat England 2-1 to lift 27th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.
Australia took the lead in a tightly contested game when Blake Govers drilled a low shot into the bottom corner from a penalty corner.
Lachlan Sharp pounced on a loose ball from another penalty corner to score from close range and extend the lead.
Samuel Ward immediately pulled one back to give England hope, but Australia held on to secure victory.
Both sides were using the tournament as preparation for the Commonwealth Games, which take place from 5-14 April on Australia’s Gold Coast. Australia won gold in 2014 and England earned bronze.
6. PM Modi, French President Macron Inaugurate UP’s Biggest Solar Power Plant.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron inaugurated the first International Solar Alliance (ISA) Summit on Sunday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre.
Both Macron and PM Modi addressed the plenary session of the Summit.
PM Modi said that of the 121 countries which the ISA aims to cover, 61 have joined the alliance and 32 have ratified framework agreement.
Besides the heads of 23 nations, 10 ministerial representatives of different countries attended the Summit.
7. Sanitary pad dispenser installed in Rajdhani Express.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day on Thursday, for the first time in the country a sanitary pad dispensing machine was installed in a coach of Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Express.
Western Railways Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Bhakar said it has been installed on a trial basis and the move would be extended to other trains as well.
“This is the first train in India in which a sanitary pad dispensation machine has been installed. It is useful for women passengers in long-distance train journeys. We will extend this plan in other trains as well,” Bhakar told ANI.
8. Bishworjit Singh, Samira Abraham clinch gold medals at National Triathlon Championship.
Bishworjit Singh of the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) and Samira Abraham of Goa emerged the respective champions in the men’s and women’s sections of the senior National triathlon championship held on Sunday.
Bishworjit Singh clinched the gold medal by clocking a timing of 2 hrs, 09 min and 46 sec to complete the triathlon event comprising of 1.5 km of swimming, 40 km of cycling and 10 km of the run.
9. India B Beat Karnataka to lift Deodhar Trophy.
A combined batting effort helped India B beat Karnataka by six wickets in the Deodhar Trophy final at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium here on Thursday.
Chasing 279/8, India B got off to a flying start as openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (58) and Abhimanyu Easwaran (69) forged an 84-run partnership before Gaikwad was dismissed.
Hanuma Vihari (21), skipper Shreyas Iyer (61) and Manoj Tiwary (59) also contributed handsomely for the cause and India B chased down the target in 48.2 overs.
10. Macron to inaugurate UP’s largest solar plant in Mirzapur.
French President Emmanuel Macron will inaugurate Uttar Pradesh’s largest solar power plant, at Dadar Kala village in Mirzapur district, during his proposed visit on March 12.
Tushar Malik, construction head of the company, said the solar power plant at Dadar Kala village is all set to generate 75 megawatt alternating current (AC) and 101 megawatt direct current (DC).
