1. World Kidney Day 2018: 8th March
World Kidney Day is observed annually on the 2nd Thursday in March.
World Kidney Day, which is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness on the importance of kidneys, is celebrated on March 8 and the theme of this year is “Kidneys and Women’s Health”.
World Kidney Day is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF).
The World Kidney Day in 2017 had a theme of “Kidney Disease and Obesity”, while the year before that they laid emphasis on children. Kidney diseases are common, harmful and often treatable if diagnosed on time.
2. US and Israeli military have started the 9th edition of joint Military exercise “Juniper Cobra 2018” in Israel.
U.S. and Israeli military officials said on Thursday they have launched a month-long joint military drill that simulates a missile attack on Israel.
The “Juniper Cobra 2018” exercise was launched on Sunday, a military spokesperson said, adding it is the largest drill of its kind.
The biennial drill is jointly held by the Israeli military and the U.S. European Command (USEUCOM).
3. Multilateral naval exercise begins in Andamans.
The Indian Navy began an eight-day-long mega naval exercise along with leading maritime powers of the region at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
28 warships including 17 from India and 11 from Australia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand are participating in the 10th exercise.
4. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Kosh’ scheme.
Chouhan also took the occasion to assert that any person who will misbehave with women will be hanged in public.
5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched National Nutrition Mission.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day today, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, launched the National Nutrition Mission, and expansion of the coverage of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme, at Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan.
The Prime Minister interacted with District Magistrates of aspirational districts. He also interacted with beneficiary mothers and girl children of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme.
6. Virat Kohli named Uber India’s first brand ambassador.
Popular ridesharing app Uber has announced the appointment of Indian skipper Virat Kohli as its first brand ambassador in India.
This partnership will see Uber and Virat Kohli joining hands to underscore the company’s commitment to serve billions in the country, in the years to come.
7. Anjum wins silver in women’s rifle 3 positions at shooting World Cup.
Indian shooter Anjum Moudgil clinched a silver medal in the women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico.
It was Anjum’s first World Cup medal as she battled windy conditions to shoot 454.2 in the 45-shot final to finish behind former junior world champion China’s Ruijiao Pei (455.4). Another Chinese Ting Sun claimed bronze, finishing with a score of 442.2.
This was India’s eighth medal in the competition and the first silver after having won three golds and four bronze medals already, for their best ISSF World Cup performance by far.
8. amous Punjabi Sufi singer, Pyare Lal Wadali died. He was 75.
Pyare Lal Wadali, the one half of famous Punjabi Sufi singing duo Wadali Brothers, died of heart attack today at a private hospital here, family members said.
He was 75, Wadali with his elder brother Puran Chand Wadali sang popular hits such as ‘Tu maane yaa na maane’ and Tanu Weds Manu’s ‘Rangrez mere’.
